Franschhoek travel - enjoyment awaits at every turn

Rain or shine, there is always something fun to do in Franschhoek. That is the sentiment of an article published on the site of local travel guru Getaway magazine, and we cannot help but agree wholeheartedly. In fact, we recommend that you linger awhile and take your time when visiting our beautiful valley because there are simply too many must-do experiences to fit into a single day. Here are some of our top suggestions to relax and unwind in the Winelands' blue-chip destination:
High on your to-do list should be the Franschhoek Wine Tram. This hop-on, hop-off tour on a green double-decker tram or tram bus which has become one of the town's signature sights, is the best way to discover Franschhoek and surrounds. There's a choice of eight different routes, and the tram also offers curated and group tours.
Franschhoek is not only famous for its exceptional wines, but also for fine cheese and chocolate. A highly recommended stop is Dalewood Fromage for their award-winning range of hand-crafted cheeses made from the estate's own Jersey milk. Moreover, for the chocoholics, Huguenot Fine Chocolates offers a 30 min chocolate tour for small groups which covers the history of chocolate, a demo of chocolate-making, tasting and a small gift.
For those who love the outdoors and being active, Franschhoek offers plenty of adventure. For a quintessential Franschhoek family outing, try trout fishing at La Ferme. The Wemmers River runs through the farm, and they also have dams stocked with different species. Fishing permits and rods available at the farm. And if cycling or hiking is your thing, give the series of biking routes located along the Berg River a go. They offer mountain-bikers and hikers a solid workout with amazing views of the Berg River catchment area. Permits are available from the Franschhoek Tourism office.
For those seeking a more relaxing pace, The Franschhoek Village Market is just the thing. This popular market takes place every Saturday morning (weather permitting) in the centre of town and hosts several high-quality traders offering a wide variety of products.  Here you'll find everything from live music, fun activities for kids, deli treats, hand-made clothing and crafts to name but a few.
And finally, make your way to Franschhoek Cellar, where all good journeys to this scenic corner of the Winelands begin and end. Boasting a great family atmosphere, our superb covered play area is supervised by capable childminders. There is also a special kids section on the menu, which is also known for mouth-watering snacks and delicious seasonal fare. Delicious new menu items include chilli con carne, oven-roasted lamb neck, green chicken curry and a buttermilk fried chicken burger. Whether you enjoy them out on our lovely courtyard or next to the cosy fireplace, this is the perfect place to feel Franschhoek's inviting pulse.
